How do you work with Exstream at Kone?

At KONE, we have multiple solution teams who are defining and coordinating the work around Exstream development items. Our solution teams are responsible for business requirements, layout definitions and overall alignment with KONE business stakeholders. On the technical platform side, I have a small internal team and we make sure that the Exstream platform at KONE is up to par with the latest versions, is compliant with all security requirements and overall technically sound to serve our business users.

With our new cloud strategy we are looking forward to ease our platform management and to be able to answer the growing demand more efficiently in the future.

Our business key user community is approximately 200 users, who are accessing Exstream through web tools defining the final layouts to our end-users.

Our internal team is very experienced in Exstream capabilities and has years of experience of Exstream (and StreamServe) already in previous versions. We are also utilizing external vendor’s resources in day to day work.

Our usage at the moment is still rather small but as said, it is growing rapidly and Exstream will be a more essential tool for KONE going forward.

What type of documents do you handle?

Our documents in Exstream are all sales related, all of our customer tenders are created and distributed through Exstream. We also do back-office reporting from the sales process back to leading applications over Exstream and create internal order forms from frontlines to back-office. In the future we are looking to move certain SAP documents to Exstream and are looking forward to re-visiting the SAP document creation flow more holistically with Exstream capabilities.

What are the biggest challenges you see within our area?

One of the biggest challenges I see, is constantly evolving (cloud) computing models. One one hand they open tremendous new capabilities but on the other hand present more challenges in keeping everything technically sound and secure. We are lucky to have great partners working with us in this journey and it’s safe to say that we could not meet our vision without them and our internal teams’ commitment and expertise.

Can you share something that you and your team have achieved that you're proud of?

Definitely it’s related to our cloud journey. We are moving towards a containerized platform and without the commitment and support from our team whether in solution creation area, or in the technical team, we would not succeed.

Looking at customer communication going forward, what are the most exciting things up ahead?

Being able to start utilizing fully the overall capabilities out there. Talking about automation capabilities in DevOps context. Also offering Exstream capabilities to new areas inside KONE drives us forward and it’s always nice to go back to the “drawing board” with our business stakeholders and define new or enhanced capabilities to them to mutually serve our end customers better.
